“Our work is shaped by the deep understanding that systems often fail the very people who need support most.”

Autana Family Therapy began with a simple but powerful belief: therapy can be more than a service; it can be a soft landing. We wanted to create a space where families who often feel unseen, misunderstood, or exhausted could reconnect with themselves and each other. At the same time, we envisioned a place where emerging clinicians could grow without burning out. What started as a small dream has grown into a hub for healing, training, and advocacy; a place where care is intentional, equitable, and transformative.
We are committed to inclusivity and to recognizing the diverse journeys of the individuals we serve. Our practice values cultural humility, which is a continuous journey of self-awareness, learning, and adaptation, so that each person receives care that is deeply respectful and individualized. Beyond the therapy room, we partner with organizations across our community to expand access, advocate for equity, and ensure that mental health is recognized as a priority and a right for all.

The name Autana comes from Cerro Autana, a sacred tabletop mountain in Venezuela. To the Piaroa people, it is the remnant of the “Tree of Life,” once central to the vast ecosystem around it. Though the tree was cut down, what remained became sacred and strong, carrying generations of stories and wisdom. Like Autana, the families we serve have endured rupture, adversity, and change.
To us, healing is not about “fixing” or “saving.” It is about honoring the enduring strength and resilience that emerge from challenge, recognizing both individual and collective capacities to heal and move forward.

Our Values
-
Autana recognizes that healing is influenced by racial and political forces. So we create spaces that are safe, accessible, and supportive for everyone.
-
Autauna offers environments, both physical and emotional, where clients can show up fully without fear of judgment, fostering trust through consistent care and respect.
-
We honor the enduring strength and wisdom that arise from rupture and adversity, acknowledging both individual and collective capacities to adapt, heal, and grow.
-
We help to build sustaining, supportive, interdependent networks that nurture collective healing, resilience, and empowerment, recognizing that true wellness extends beyond the individual to families, neighborhoods, and cultures.
-
Providing care that is responsive to each client’s cultural context, honoring lived experiences with respect and openness, and adapting to the evolving nature of identity and community is extremely important to our team.
-
Providing evidence-based, culturally informed care that respects each client’s experience and ensures services are equitable, ethical, and grounded in trust is our guiding principle.
Tracing Our Roots

Based on the story of our name, we’ve created a custom topographic map of the Autana region. Here’s what it represents:
Resilience
The Piaroa people of the Autana region have faced displacement, loss of traditional knowledge, and economic isolation, yet continue to carry forward their culture with strength and dignity. Their resilience reflects the endurance of families who carry memory and identity even through rupture. At Autana, we see this same resilience in the children, teens, and caregivers we serve, many of whom navigate systems that feel unsafe or dismissive. Just as the Piaroa weave strong fibers into something that holds, we create space for families to rebuild.
Guidance
Autana Family Therapy stands as a steady point of orientation within overwhelming and often unjust systems. For families and clinicians alike, we offer a grounded place to pause and find direction; returning to what is nourishing, trustworthy, and whole when the path ahead feels uncertain.
Renewal
Though the original tree no longer stands, life continues around Autana. Renewal symbolizes transformation, meaning even in altered circumstances, both grief for what was lost and strength in what emerges can arise.
And that’s where our story begins.
We recognize and support the strength that already exists within. Every session is a space to be heard and respected in ways that honor your story.
