The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) teaches–and has caregivers and youth practice–skills involved in bonding (creating warm, loving relationships), setting clear, firm boundaries, and monitoring their children’s emotional well-being and activities. Skill practice creates new prosocial habit patterns in the brain, which help improve behavior, strengthen the parent-child relationship, and help a child feel loved.
Over the course of 10 sessions, families will learn skills to:
Increase family bonding
Increase parental involvement
Increase positive parenting skills
Increase positive communication
Increase family organization
Decrease family conflict
Decrease youth depression
Decrease youth aggression
Increase youth cooperation
Increase the number of prosocial friends and social competencies
